After half a season of action, it is the perfect time to look at how the new mandated tire is performing in Miata Trophy!
Tire Overview:
The Yokohama A052 is a renowned tire that has carved out a reputation as a formidable option for drivers looking to optimise performance in both wet and dry conditions.
With its extra-wide, rounded outer rib profile and notched micro-grooves, it allows competitors to push hard while effectively dissipating heat to maintain the optimum operating window.
This results in a great tire that fits a wide range of disciplines, with the pace suited to Miata trophy’s 20-minute race. Alternatively, for those seeking a different challenge, the tire is also the mandated control tire for the Trackday Championship, where it provides consistent performance over 45-minute races.
Drivers quickly got to grips with the tire straight out of the box, showing confidence and overall reporting positive feedback.
Regulations:
Drivers are permitted a total of 16 tires per season, tightening up the championship and placing great emphasis on driver skill and tire management.
As previously mentioned, this control tire is also mandated for the Trackday Championship. This provides an excellent opportunity for competitors to expand their race entries, as a single championship registration fee and the same control tire can be used across both championships. Drivers can therefore access a wider range of racing opportunities within the MSVT racing portfolio!
Tires are to be purchased through SCP tyres, who continue to look after our drivers by attending each MSVT race meeting and providing tire changing and balancing services.
